Happy Sunday 💛
This week has been a challenging one for me. Speaking to friends, it seems many of us are feeling heavy right now. Whether from the news, the heat, or personal struggles, I think humanity is in desperate need of rest and relief, and perhaps just a bit of cool water or air.
It’s in moments like this one that I’m grateful for my upbringing in the mountains. I allow those memories to take me back, to transport me to some faraway peak dotted with remnants of last winter’s snow, this summer’s wildflowers. Dust cakes my knees, sweat beads at my neck, and an arduous climb teaches me how to breathe again.
I’ve written about this before, but there is something about the sound of my own breath, the panting and gasping that comes with exertition, and how I prefer hearing it to speech. Breath is essential, so natural, pure in ways that words can’t replicate. When we breathe, we remember that we are bodies. I am like you, and you like me.
